Welcome to Ampro Engineering. This channel is all about making those old RC toys we had as kids as good as they deserved to be way back in the 1980's...but today. We love 3D printing parts for the best and the worst RC's ever made and sometimes, we will fix random things.
That is why RC is great, you learn how to fix anything you get your hands on!
This channel creates and upgrades, restores and builds but we never destroy...unless it is on accident and your mechanical speed control gets stuck, causing your beloved Monster Beetle to barrel uncontrollably toward a cliff...then in that case it is not avoidable.

Hey would it be possible for you to extend the cooling ducked down to the motor if I were to cut a hole in plastic above it
Omg after days of searching I’ve found a decent light kit, not sure why all the ones available are so so bad, either the headlights change in brightness with throttle or there are no proper break lights
Ive just acquired a Nikko Black Fox with Controller. It all powers up,but goes real slow forwards and backwards, with quiet a noise coming from the rear of it. Wondering whats up with it?
They are usually not the most quiet. This thing is surprisingly noisy.
Is the insulation video done yet?
It's under way. Working on a home addition at the moment but ill have it done soon.
Love this channel.been watching for years.subscribed.
Well I very much appreciate it!
Where you found this rims?
These are AMPro designed wheels. Check out episode 435 where you can find the options on where to get them.
Dude are we ever gonnna be able to pick this up.whats goin on
They have been selling them a while now. Are you on the discord group?
Awesome crawler video. 👍🏾🔥
Thanks! It is a great truck
These still available? Great idea btw! This was always such a "nightmare" bitd!! I must have collected 20+ sets of frame rails with busted off body mount bosses just while growing up and racing them.
Yes, there is a link in the description. I always hated how weak these were too!
New sub here. Thanks for your review. I have been using I think it is EBL batteries from China and they have mostly been okay. Have to recharge them quicker than I like. Lately the 1.2v limit bit me on some temp sensors I have in my outbuildings here on our Texas property. All of the 1.5v rechargeable ones looked okay but the octopus style usb charging cable seems unwieldy to me. So the XTAR have me curious. I think I am going to order some and give it a whirl. All the best from north Texas.
I will say this, I have been using these over a year and a half so far and I cannot believe how good these are. They last a good long time and have been super reliable. I bought about 60 for use at the office now.
@@AMPROEngineering thanks for your reply. I am ordering a XTAR charger and batteries. I currently have 2 other XTAR chargers for 18650 capacity testing but think this new charger may be able to handle the AA/AAA & 18650 cells better. One down side to the lithium 1.5V batteries seem to be RFI (radio frequency interference). This affects my using them in my radio room aka ham shack. This is not surprising since they are doing DC-DC conversion. Thanks again for your videos and response. All the best from north Texas.
Are they 1/16?
Yeah around there. 1/16 is more like the overall form factor than the actual scale. parked next to a 1/18 crawler, this is bigger.
Picked one up for my son! He loves it haha and so do I might just pick my self one too. But did end up breaking the driving gear rear differential it is plastic! Was a pain to locate new one but fms website is catch up on flaws but is a great first time RC
Yeah the site is getting better and better. They do offer a lot of upgrades so maybe a brass one is in order.
Hi, I'm coming back to this post because I have just ordered the motor cell and I am going to make it brushless, up to what winding level has it been tested?
I would in no way recommend anything other than a hot stock/mild mod motor. I am less concerned about these parts than I am with the rest of the car. A crash with a hot brushless will without a doubt break most of the car.
I'm wondering if you think your rc have air brakes I hear air brakes from your speaker..
So this is a simple speaker that WPL makes for many applications. The diesel one is normally found on the military cars they make but I wanted this one to have the diesel motor sound since I hate V8 sounds. So this is a toyota land cruiser with the very rare air brake option.
Has anymore progress made on this build?
Yes, I am working on the video with the AMPro body mounts.
I need 1.5v batteries for a microphone. Which one do you recommend?
These Xtar ones for sure. They are one of the few 1.5V batteries that are reliable.
Minimal rwd drifting experience you would know it won’t even be driveable without the gyro.
Well good thing it has one.
This is an excellent review. I don't think I've seen anyone else go into the detail on the manual as you did. It looks great and I think your description as blend of a model and trail truck is exactly right.
Well thank you. I just know that some manuals are totally useless and point to a website vs telling you anything you need. FMS does a great job of this.
Blue wheels let it down massively 🤢
Sure glad it's my car then.
Is this still available this was my favourite toy growing up can I purchase it from you 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Oh sorry, long gone!
GPM makes a set of metal gears for the Kaiser/CR12 that will work with these, part no. SKXS56T1233T
WHAT! They do! Hell yes! Ordering!
SO COOL..! 😎😎 I really liked, built from scratch, lighting up my SRB bodies way way back in the day. Never thought twice about doing a mod back then.. 😂
I always wanted lights on them!
AWESOME!! 👍😎
Thank you!
Very late to the party, but wow! That is a mega deal, even with a cheap radio system, going to have to think about getting my hands on one. I bought the Blazing Blazer new when it first came out (radio and battery as well) for much more than what this ones costs now..🤯
I found it to be so good that I sold off my vintage bruiser. Yeah crazy how much the blazer is now!
@@AMPROEngineering Wow! Well good to know! Thanks!!
Very cool! I did the same to my Sand Scorcher back in the day, using extra bezels from a Rough Rider. I also bought extra clear lenses, so I had the reg head lamps, four across above the bumper and four across the roof, even had the rear tail lamps lite as well. I made the rack that held them from old plastic clothes hangers, just heated it up and bent them to make them mount on the front suspension tower where the Rough Rider mounted the light bezel. Cannot recall the bulbs that I used, but fairly sure the came from Radio Shack. For the headlamps I used a very small drill bit to put two small holes thru the back, just used a small bit of clear silicone to hold them in, in case they needed to be replaced, plus it would also fill the holes so that water wouldn't get it. I should mention to silicone mount the clear lenses as well, much easier to replace and or repair, it doesn't take much. Really always wanted a lamp moulding just like the Lancia had, that would fit on the bug nose, that would be a cool piece.
Very nice! It is so much fun with lights! I just needed to have this!
Cast iron 2 piece wheels are a nice touch
I know I think those look awesome so I had to design some.
You can never, ever ignore the cool factor.
No, working fans, not matter how useless, are just "cool"....haha!
The paleblue batteries, like all other rechargeable Li-ion batteries are very different from a regular AA battery. they have a built in buck converter to get the 5v lithium down to 1.5V, that buck converter is always on and drawing a little bit of power hence the bad shelf life. but the reason you read 0V is not because they are dead like would be the case for any other AA battery, its because the buck converter has switched off to protect the actual lithium cell. they can be recharged and will be good to go
Interesting. For me, they are just dead. They did not last more than 4 or 5 months of usage but I was not aware of the onboard circuity "shutting down" the cell when power is reduced.
That a cardboard box or plastic housing?
This piece of junk is plastic.
Do you have a link to the bumpers on shapewayys? I couldn't find them
Yes, there are links in the video description to everything.
I just got this car for "free" and I already spent $20 on replacing all the bearings lol
Be careful lol, the factory plastic is just worthless!
@@AMPROEngineering a shock tower is already broken so I have to buy that how do I buy it from you
So you didnt know much about this before you reviewed I guess. Third channel is a switch in case you dont want them on all the time, I cut it off when I dont need it and it comes on when the receiver is powered. Its the most scale one I could find and it STILL doesnt give parking lights that fickin blink. Or brake lights. Like 50% until you brake or turn...
No mine did not work that way. The 3rd channel went to an onboard circuit with blank pads around it. The cable was installed but likely a cheaper version or cost reduced variant. I think this is the reason they so seldom come with instructions.
cant find any where the brake light blinks as well. frustrating. Appreciate this though, was looking for the most scale.
No you wont find that on these cheap units. The ones that do that are from MyTrickRC that I have covered here. The UF7 does that and is what I installed in my Starsky and Hutch Torino build .
How bout just buy a upgrade kit and give us another video of you doing a complete engine esc swap and make it even cooler because like you said it looks awesome and i think it deserves a full upgrade....
I wanted to and then someone offered me $400 for it as is. Seems it's rare.
@@AMPROEngineering can you get a 3D printer and start making the rare limited editions and sale them as replicas or limited edition replicas as if they also came out with a certain amount of replica cars that still sells for percentage lower than the real versions, and order there same sticker logos to make them look just like , or even make some that you market as your own limited versions of our all time favorite can't find no more RC vehicles cause they stop making them
All my batteries are like your orange and green ones. None hold a charge and after maybe 3 times they don’t charge anymore. I just bought pale blue and thought they would fix my problem since they were lithium. I’m going back to disposable batteries. Cheaper. Better.
The eneloop ones? Wow I have some with over a thousand charges. I will never use disposable batteries given how often they leak and how bad they are for the environment. Eneloop and Xtar only. Save you a fortune too.
@@AMPROEngineering no not eneloop. Never heard of that brand. But I bought many others as I thought they might be better. But I hear Ikea are eneloop and will buy those. But first, buy a charger that can “refresh” dead batteries. Costs like $50. But honestly, so much money spent. Cheaper to buy Alkaline batteries for normal household use.
Having a seasoned driver will help show how good these are out of the box.
Oh for sure! I bet someone good would make this look amazing.
Nice video and nice work! My beloved ff01's gearbox is also decomposing. Do you offer these parts ready to go printed and finished ? No printer and no access to one. Thx
Yup! There is a link in the description to the parts on Shapeways. Those are the parts you see in my video.
make one for the grasshopper
The grasshopper body is the cage. The problem with the hornet is that the lexan is not load bearing while the grasshopper body is what makes it a monocoque
@@AMPROEngineering my grashopper body is destryoed and i want to make a cage like that that is fully sealed to keep dirt out
Do you sell these? 😊
Yes. there are links to shapeways to buy the SLS print or MyMiniFactory for home prints. All the info is in the description.
@AMPROEngineering LDRC have some new models on this series. #1899 I believe Die cast sweet looking bodies. Will you be covering them??? Please?? 🥺🥺🥺 🤩
Yup! I have it!
@@AMPROEngineering sweet! 😍💪🙏
I trimmed the bottom of the rear bulkhead battery cup and lipos fit great
That's one way to do it.
If I could get one as a Receiver Ready with open diffs and a pickup body I might just buy one.
Yeah i do wish one would come as a chassis.
@@AMPROEngineering I have a perfectly good Futaba 16IZ sitting here! Don't need the RTR radio. Bind it to my 16IZ with a park flyer receiver instead. It's nice to have an RTR version but an RxR version would also be nice. I still have the factory radios from my Kyosho Mad Crusher GP and HPI WR8 Nitro lying around here somewhere having never once been powered on.
Hi! I just upgraded my tamiya blackfoot. One problem I can't find the MIP leg bones. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So the CVD's that are needed come with the re-release BF or if you have an original (which it seems like you do) then you need to locate the Tamiya 53908 set that I go over at 18:30 in the video. MIP does not make these.
I like them, i highly doubt its actually 1/24th scale but it still looks cool
No it is closer to like 1/20 but it is hard to tell given the weird wheelbase. Overall it is a great chassis and we have run this a lot!
@@AMPROEngineering scales weird, if I ever get a 3d printer id try my hardest to make the most scale accurate models with custom chassis I can possibly do
Aliexpress has this car and the Trueno 2 for one. 45 plus tax for both! I ordered them plus the AE86 decals for the tofu shop!
WOW! That is killer!
muchas gracias, me funciono tu tip para aflojar ese pivote y engrasar la caja de velocidad
¡Muy bien! Me alegra saber que fue útil.
Get Hot Racing sway bars, they help a lot at turning with decent speed. Makes you roll less.
I did end up getting some and they do help!
Not left handed drive..😔
Yeah...annoying. It is wrong side drive.
Suspensions doesn't look really nice when you were actually using it, it looks like it has none
It is light so i think it ends up floating. Every wheel is independently sprung.
Any chance you’ll be doing a CXD 22/32 in the future? I’d love to see what you could do with them. Keep up the good work.
Oh I like those! I dont know why I havent done one yet but I think I will need to!
